Catching Up with Nancy Murphree Davis

We’ve just passed the one year mark on our chosen retirement location of Pensacola, Florida. My art career has progressed pretty well. I first made some art contacts through the Plein Air Painters of Pensacola. We get together to paint on location one morning every week. My on-location painting hasn’t improved very much, but I appreciate the camaraderie. From these connections, I was nominated for membership in Art Study Club. We meet monthly for educational programs and exhibit locally twice a year. It was established in 1957, so the institutional memory is impressive!

I was encouraged to apply to a cooperative gallery which happens to be four blocks from my house. I hung my work there at the end of June. I’ve enjoyed working there on a weekly basis and sold enough to cover fees each month thus far.

This fall I traveled to Orlando to the Florida Watercolor Society Convention and attended a workshop with one of my painting idols, Carol Carter. I met a bunch of amazingly talented artists and ended up helping out on the FWS social media team.

Fortunately, I’ve gotten into quite a few juried shows locally in a variety of venues and my ribbon collection is growing! I even put some work in the art exhibits of the Pensacola Interstate Fair because everyone else was doing it. I can home with two blue ribbons and cash in my pocket!

2020 bodes to be art-filled. I’m in a group show in January and again in March. I’m looking forward to exhibiting some new work alongside my new gallery mates. The March show has a nature theme so much of my work fits in nicely. Once my Christmas commissions are finished, I can’t wait to do some new colorful creatures!
