Catching up with Sidra Hassan-Brown

I’m so excited to share recent developments with you all (or should I say y’all that I am now in Texas)! This past year has been both exciting and challenging. My husband and I departed New York City and settled in beautiful but warm San Antonio! Upon arriving we had our share of challenges both in finding jobs to support our more spacious but still modest apartment. I ended up taking a position at a prominent executive protection firm as an accounts payable specialist. This experience definitely broadened my horizons with the level of attentiveness required for such a position while observing maximum discretion.

While it has been challenging to balance my newfound work to pay our bills while also practicing my art, I believe this also presents an opportunity. It enables me to truly seek out the most appropriate competitions while also focusing on specific gallery exhibitions. I am currently applying to art shows and have an exhibition lined up at IMUR Art Gallery in Jersey City, New Jersey this November 2022. Five of my paintings, a mixture of abstracts and portraits were selected for this upcoming event. I am still actively promoting my work on Singulart as well and creating small quick paintings for my Etsy page.

When I am not painting or working, Chris and I definitely enjoy a hike at Guadalupe state park, or trip down to Austin to visit some amazing galleries, and of course you can never go wrong with an almond croissant and cup of coffee from our favorite bakery La Panaderia, a San Antonio staple. Last but not least, we adopted a homeless kitten and named her Taco! She is so cute and fills our house with joy 🙂 I can’t wait to update you all – y’all again very soon!
