Catching up with Sarah Thompson
Life has changed so dramatically since my last update. Leaving social media was a mental health gift I gave myself for the New Year.
My big update is: I’m now employed full-time at one of Virginia’s top workplaces, The Mariners’ Museum and Park in Newport News. In January I accepted the position of “Custom Production Technician” (exhibit designer, crafter, and installer) the position allows me to fully utilize all of my skills, talents, and creativity, and fine art education while serving a purpose bigger than myself.
I’m currently preparing to carve 6 themed benches that I designed for the museum park’s youth education program. The benches illustrate native trees, birds, fish, pollinators, and turtles as well as sail boats within the museum’s Small Craft Exhibit.
These illustrations are some pictures of the compositions. The carvings will be finished with a combination of epoxy fill and hand painting and the benches will be coated in epoxy for ease of maintenance and longevity.
